J.J. Abrams sat down with MTV to discuss a bit about the STAR TREK movie sequel. Of course one could not go without asking about whether or not Khan would somehow be involved in the anticipated follow up. Below is a snippet in regards to this interview:
“Khan would be…certainly…a challenge.
We had, certainly, an equal challenge finding our crew of the Enterprise. While I don’t want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we’ve seen in the past, and I don’t think any of the other writers or producers are interested in just rehasing or throwing character sin for the sake of it…Khan is certainly the most obvious one in the history of the series for me…I do think that there are…nothing is off limits in terms of what we’re discussing.”
Now many may think that this is on par with remake “unoriginality” and that Abrams and company should create a completely unique storyline for the crew of the enterprise but ponder this for a moment. In THE WRATH OF KHAN we never really got to see his genetically engineered army of supermen behave like….. well….. genetically engineered supermen. With today’s technology a premise like that could truly be brought to life and, at the same time, be believable. So count me in for Khan in The STAR TREK sequel.
FYI: Abrams’ first Star Trek hits shelves this week for both DVD and Bluray. Be sure to grab one folks
