Harry falls head-over-heels into adoration with Julie, a waitress he’s recently met, and the two decide to develop collectively after her shift finishes. But Harry runs behind schedule and misses Julie. By the rendezvous spot, however, a pay phone rings. While Harry answers it, a soldier tells him that a nuclear bomb will annihilate the U.S. Within one hour!

Harry hysterically searches on behalf of his recent love and tells everybody he encounters regarding the phone call. When the news spreads, it seems everybody is trying desperately to flee the nation via helicopter. But Harry continues his quest. Will he locate Julie? Will it make a difference?

The phone call outside the diner was legitimate; the missiles arrive while Harry (Anthony Edwards) and Julie (Mare Winningham), are trapped inside a disabled helicopter, they sink under the surface of the La Brea tar pits.
