Jealousy and intrigue, on and off the film set of a widespread daytime soap opera. Celeste Talbert (Sally Field) is the overanxious diva of “The Sun Also Sets,” but her popularity with the shows fans does not expand to her relationships with her resentful co-stars. Sultry Montana Moorehead (Cathy Moriarty) has prepared her eyes on the soap’s top position, and she even offers to slumber with the show’s jumpy young producer if he’ll come up with Celeste written off the series.
During a instant of inspiration, the horny executive decides to bring Talbert’s hated ex-lover, Jeffrey Anderson (Kevin Kline), back on top of the series, with the expectation of driving the fragile star to an untimely retirement. The reality that Anderson’s character was decapitated during an earlier episode is seen being a challenging, but not insurmountable, problem.
Jeffrey (Kevin Kline) is Lori’s (Elizabeth Shue’s) father, and Celeste (Sally Field) is Lori’s mother. They develop inside a competition to establish who will stay on the program. Celeste wins, but elects to give up her career on behalf of her daughter. The producers at that moment allow all three of them to continue on the program.
